Potty Training started

We have been working on potty training with Ethan for the last 3 days now. Obviously we haven't had any results but at least he is sitting on his potty. I have decided to put him on the potty after breakfast in the mornings b/c he usually messes his diaper then. I figure if we get him on the potty at a time when he does tend to stink his diaper then we'll have quicker success. Each time he just sits on his potty we praise him & clap for him. So this morning I got him up & he didn't have a stinky diaper which happens once or twice a week. I put a clean diaper on him & after breakfast took him to the potty. By that time he already stunk up his diaper. I still made him sit on his potty for 10 mins we watched Alf on the portable DVD player. Then he got a new diaper & we headed downstairs. Maybe 20 mins later he stunk up his diaper. I couldn't help but laugh. He waited till I took him off the potty to mess his diaper. What a little stinker! He thought he was cute. We'll put him on the potty again this evening when he gets ready for bed. Right now we are just doing 2 times a day as an introductory phase. Our original plan changed b/c he does have a poop schedule so we are trying to go by that. Typically when Ethan is successful at something he'll begin to do it more & more b/c we constantly praise him. He gets all kinds of hugs & kisses & clapped for. We know he knows it was good when he starts to clap for himself. I think we can get the same results with this as anything else. Potty training is going to take time & patience. I've got the time & the patience he should do well. He's already sitting on his potty longer than 5 secs w/o a complaint.

Yesterday Ethan went with me to an appt & afterwards i had to take him shoe shopping (for him). I put his sandals on & they are too small. So we went to Target for sandals. He currently wears a 4 in infant shoes. I had to get a 5  b/c they didn't carry 4's in sandals. So I bought him 2 pair of sandals & a pair of tennis shoes for the fall. I called him Big Foot. I can't believe how quickly his feet have grown! When we got home I took the tags off & had him walk around the house in them just to make sure that they won't cause him to trip or fall. He was not affected by their size at all. He'll be out of the size 4's by end of this summer I'm sure. He ended up taking one of his shoes off & wouldn't let me take the other one off so he walked around the house with one shoe on for a few hrs. He can be such a goof sometimes.

Ethan has 2 more teeth coming in. I don't know if I've mentioned it in a previous post or not. His molars are coming in, the ones right next to the incisors which have not come in yet. He's handled it pretty good. He was a little cranky over the weekend but not too bad. On Sunday a friend of mine came over for a visit. I haven't seen her in 5 yrs she moved to Tennessee when she got married 5 yrs ago & just recently moved back here to OH but is permanently moving to SD next month (Aug). I've known her for more than 20 yrs, since kindergarden. Ethan walked around the living room showing her the couch & the chair. It was cute. He kept trying to get into her purse too. He spent some time flirting until we made him go down for a nap. He had a good time. Hopefully we will be able to make a trip to SD to see her & her husband. At least we'd have a place to stay. It was a great time just sitting & talking letting her meet Ethan.

More new things for Ethan

Ethan was a little social beast last night! My cousin is turning 21 so a party was held for her last night. Ethan was all about running around showing off his walking skills. I gotta brag here, he's doing awsome with walking! He picked right up on it. No more crawling for Ethan! While Ashley was opening her gifts Ethan had to be right there with her so he could play with all the colorful tissue paper. He was all about the tissue paper. Some pictures were taken as soon as I am able to get a hold of them from other family members I will post them to his blog.

Today we discovered 2 more teeth. Ethan has 2 upper molars coming in. The ones that sit next to the incisors. That must have been the reason why he woke up in the middle of the night last night crying. But the new teeth don't seem to be bothering him at all today. My little guy just keeps on surprising us. We also bought him his first potty today. We are going to start potty training sometime either tonight, tomorrow, or Monday. It's so exciting! We are going to try to have him sit on the potty each night before bed, once we have success with that then we will try before his bath, then again before bed, ect. If that doesn't work I got a few other tricks up my sleeve. This is going to be an interesting experience.

Oh Ethan

Ethan, Ethan, Ethan, what am I going to do about you?! Ethan has gotten himself into some mischief this week. On Tuesday he decided that he was not going to accept the word no when it came to the chord to a small fan that I had up on our mantle. Several times I said no & took him away from it. But he managed to slip between my fingers & yanked the chord. The fan knocked over a photo frame which in turn knocked over a burning candle which hit the floor (fortunately extinguishing it) & spilling wax onto the carpet & getting onto his clothes. What a mess to clean up. We had no idea how to get it out we had to ask for help. Freezing his clothes did not aid in getting the wax off. A friend of mine told me to take a paper towel & place it over his clothes where the wax was & then iron the paper towel. The heat melts the wax & the paper towel absorbs the wax. It worked. It left a stain which I treated with Shout & it looks like that might get the stain out. Then this evening I was drinking lemonade. While I was talking to my mom on the phone Ethan managed to knock over my glass from the bar stool it was sitting on. The glass hit the floor fan & shattered. Here's the kicker, it was my Steelers mug that was a wedding present. I was not a happy camper about that. The mug was a set for us one was Steelers one was Browns. Tuesday night we rearranged the living room & the computer room. We put a chair in the computer room & them arranged the furniture in the living room to cover the chords. Everything that we can put up is up out of his reach. But there are a few things we are trying to work with him on to leave alone. The floor lamp is the major one. It's the only light we have in the livingroom. Welcome to toddlerhood Ethan is definitely no longer a baby. For the most part he's a good little boy. Even on the days where he has us wanting to pull our hair out as soon as he flashes us a smile or gives us a kiss it's all worth it. This morning I was hanging out in the living room with him playing with his ball (he tries to throw it to me) & watching a tv show I DVR each week. I sat on the chair after a while due to the floor making my rump hurt. Next thing I know Ethan starts to climb up into my lap & ends up snuggling & rocking with me for a whole 5 mins then he was done & wanted to play some more. It was still a very nice 5 mins.

He is now all about walking. This afternoon I took him outside to play & he had me walking up & down the driveway. I think we walked the length about 5 times. He would walk me to the end then he would walk me back up to the edge of the house & back to the end. I was essentially following him. He got cranky after a while so he went down for a nap. He has figured out how to stand w/o assistance as well. He loves to show off that skill now too. He wants to walk everywhere. If we go up the stairs he wants to do it himself. He has mastered going up the stairs now he has to master going down the stairs. This evening just before dinner he was in the computer room with me. He was playing quietly at my feet then he managed to quietly sneak out & go up the stairs. I found him playing in his room with the door shut sitting in the middle of the floor with a stuffed animal talking away to it. I go to take him downstairs & he skitters in between my legs to the bathroom door just to shut it before we head down. He's really into shutting doors now. If there is a door open he has to go shut it. What are we going to do about this kid? He's a little stinker that's for sure.

My little cutie pie

Ethan was so cute today. He is now all about walking. He has managed to figure out how to stand up w/o assistance. He can't do it every time but he's getting better. We had to move his room about a little bit as he has started to pull the plug to his monitor from the outlet so his bed & dresser are flipped now. He was being so cute today that I got some really cute pictures of him. There were so many cute ones it was hard to chose which ones to post.

Happy 4th of July!!

Hope everyone had a great 4th we sure did. First we went to Grampa Franks & Gramma Judy's for a cookout. Ethan had a great time swinging on the swing set & walking in the grass. He ate like a champ. He had some green beans, chicken, & potatoes. What a little piggy! Then we went back home to pack up some drinks & snacks for the wait for the fireworks. We went to International Park to see the downtown fireworks. We got there about 7 so that we could get a good spot to watch the display. We had a cooler packed with drinks & snacks but we still ended up getting a pizza. Ethan started to get a bit on the fussy side around 8:30 so we let him out of his stroller & kept him on the blanket (the ground was really nasty). Once we got our pizza we had to put him back in his stroller so we could eat then he went for a little walk about 9:30. The fireworks were supposed to start about 9:45 but they actually didn't start till after 10. There was a display that was happening across the river at Promenade Park that looked like it was the city's display but it ended after 3 mins. People were staring & wondering if that was it. Matt thought it was & was getting ready to pack up. I followed the boaters & said they aren't moving neither are we. Good thing I paid attention to them b/c a few mins later the real downtown fireworks started. Ethan seemed to enjoy them. He never fussed or anything. Towards the end he got a tad restless but that was ok. When the grand finale went off he heard all the people clapping so he decided to clap with everyone. I thought it was too cute. Maybe next year we can take him to Promenade. They have all kids of live music, family fun events, food, ect. This year I thought he was just too little for all that. We ended up getting home about midnight. It was way past Ethan's bedtime (9:00) but it was fun. On special occasions he gets to stay up. He handled it well.

Here are the pictures from last night. Sorry I didn't get any of the actual display.
